At the Uzbek Scientific Journal of Internal Diseases, we are committed to maintaining a trustworthy, accurate, and transparent scholarly record. In rare cases, it may be necessary to issue corrections, retractions, or editorial notices to address errors, ethical concerns, or interpretive issues in published articles. This policy outlines the circumstances under which such actions are taken and the procedures followed, in accordance with he World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.

1. Corrections, Erratum, and Corrigendum

Corrections are issued when errors are identified in published articles that affect the clarity, accuracy, or presentation of the work but do not fundamentally alter the study’s results, interpretation, or reliability.

  • Erratum: Issued when the error originates from the publisher, such as formatting mistakes, typesetting errors, or editorial oversights. Errata are issued at no cost to the author.

  • Corrigendum: Issued when the error originates from the author, such as factual inaccuracies, mislabeling, or incorrect author affiliations. A processing fee may apply to cover administrative costs.

Correction Notes:

  • Indexed and discoverable in major academic databases

  • Bidirectionally linked to the original article

  • Accompanied by a clear explanation of what was corrected and why

  • Linked transparently, while the original article remains publicly accessible

Examples of corrections include:

  • Incorrect author names or affiliations

  • Misstated numerical values or labels in tables/figures

  • Typographical errors affecting meaning

  • Factual inaccuracies that do not alter overall conclusions

Corrections are essential for maintaining the integrity, transparency, and trustworthiness of the scholarly record.

2. Retractions

Retractions are issued when the validity or integrity of an article is substantially compromised, including cases where:

  • Conclusions or interpretations are fundamentally flawed

  • Research misconduct is identified (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication, unethical practices)

  • Major ethical violations or breaches of publication standards occur

Key Features of Retractions:

  • Retraction notices are publicly published, indexed, and bidirectionally linked to the original article

  • The original article remains available but is watermarked “Retracted” and the title is updated to “Retracted Article”

  • Retractions are corrective actions and not intended as punitive measures

3. Editorial Expressions of Concern (EEoC) and Editor’s Notes

  • Editor’s Note: A temporary, online-only notice alerting readers that an investigation is underway regarding a published article. These are not indexed in scholarly databases.

  • Editorial Expression of Concern (EEoC): A formal statement published when serious concerns are raised about the integrity of a paper, pending investigation. EEoCs are:

    • Indexed and bidirectionally linked to the original article

    • Assigned a DOI and visible in databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus

These notices provide transparency and keep the academic community informed while investigations are ongoing.

4. Removal of Published Content

In exceptional cases, the journal may remove published content entirely when:

  • Content is defamatory or violates intellectual property or privacy rights

  • A court or government order mandates removal

  • Content poses an immediate, serious risk to health or safety

Procedure for Removal:

  • Bibliographic metadata (title, authors, etc.) will be retained

  • A public statement will explain the reason for removal

5. Matters Arising (Post-Publication Commentary)

The Uzbek Scientific Journal of Internal Diseases encourages constructive post-publication discussion to advance scholarly debate.

  • Authors, readers, or researchers may submit formal Matters Arising comments, including challenges, clarifications, or replications of published work

  • These submissions will undergo peer review, and if accepted, will be published online

  • Original authors will be invited to provide a reply, which may also be published alongside the commentary

This process allows the scholarly dialogue to evolve while maintaining the integrity of the original publication.
