The Uzbek Scientific Journal of Internal Diseases recognizes the ethical, legal, and social implications of research involving human embryos, gametes, human embryonic stem cells, and related materials. Given the sensitive nature of such research, the journal requires that all manuscripts reporting such studies comply with relevant national and international guidelines and regulations. This policy outlines the necessary ethical considerations and requirements for submitting manuscripts involving these materials.

Ethics Approval

Manuscripts that report research involving human embryos, gametes, or stem cells must include a clear statement confirming that all experiments were conducted in accordance with the applicable guidelines and regulations. Authors must include the following information:

  • Ethics Committee Approval: The manuscript must state which institutional and/or national research ethics committee approved the experiments, including the name of the committee and the approval number, if applicable. Authors should also describe any relevant details regarding the ethical approval process.
  • Informed Consent: In cases where human embryos, gametes, or stem cells are used, authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from all recipients or donors of cells or tissues. This includes any conditions under which human embryos or gametes were donated for research purposes. If applicable, the manuscript should describe the conditions of donation and any associated ethical considerations.
    • Authors should provide details on the informed consent process, including whether it was obtained from donors or legal guardians (in the case of minors or incapacitated individuals).
    • Copies of the ethics approval and redacted consent documents may be requested by the journal to verify compliance.

Compliance with International Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to follow the ethical principles outlined in the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Clinical Translation. These guidelines are designed to ensure responsible conduct in stem cell research and its clinical application.

  • Human Germline Modifications: In cases where the manuscript describes research involving modifications of the human germline, the journal will evaluate the study based on:
    • Safety Considerations: Ensuring that the research complies with applicable safety regulations and minimizes risks to participants or future generations.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to relevant national and international laws and regulations.
    • Societal Impact: The manuscript will be evaluated in light of the societal debate on the implications of human germline modifications.

Decision to Publish

The decision to publish a manuscript describing research involving human embryos, gametes, or stem cells is at the sole discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. This decision will be based on:

  • Compliance with Ethical Guidelines: Ensuring that the research adheres to all ethical standards, including obtaining proper consent and ethics committee approval.
  • Scientific Merit: The quality and integrity of the research, as well as its relevance to the field of internal diseases.
  • Societal and Legal Considerations: Ensuring that the study aligns with prevailing societal views and legal frameworks regarding the use of human embryos, gametes, and stem cells.

Summary of Requirements

  • Ethics Statement: Confirm institutional/national ethics committee approval, providing the committee name and approval details.
  • Informed Consent: Ensure that informed consent was obtained from donors/recipients, where applicable.
  • Compliance with ISSCR Guidelines: Follow the ethical principles laid out by the ISSCR for stem cell research and clinical translation.
  • Human Germline Modifications: Address safety, legal, and societal considerations for studies involving modifications of the human germline.

The Uzbek Scientific Journal of Internal Diseases is committed to ensuring that all research involving human embryos, gametes, and stem cells meets the highest ethical standards and legal requirements. Authors must adhere to these guidelines to ensure the ethical integrity of their work and contribute responsibly to scientific knowledge.
